Business Studies
This course is a double award qualification which allows candidates to develop knowledge and understanding through the investigation of a range of business organisations. The course will prepare candidates for employment, further education or training. Guest speakers will come into school and students will visit organisations to acquire a vocational experience. The course is split into three units.
UNIT 1 - Investigating Business
This unit helps to understand how businesses organise themselves in order to meet their aims and objectives. Two contrasting businesses will be investigated and students will have the opportunity to have first hand information through visits.
This unit is assessed through a portfolio of work.
UNIT 2 - People and Business
This unit helps to understand the roles played by people with different interests in a business and to look in detail at the working relationships between employer and employee.
This unit is assessed through a portfolio of work.
UNIT 3 - Business Finance
This unit introduces the main elements of finance for a business from the importance of keeping track of flows of money to producing simple profit and loss accounts.
Young Enterprise
Young Enterprise is available to all year 12 students as an enrichment activity. Working with local business advisors, students are given the opportunity to set up and run their own business.
