Year 11 students had an advice and guidance assembly on Thursday 9th May that focused upon how to approach the summer examinations, the routines and protocols to be followed and the behaviour expectations before, during and after the examinations. Key Stage 4 Course Choice Process for Year 9 students - distribution of Final Choice Form - 1st March 2013
We have now reached the following events in the Key Stage 4 Course Choice Process:
Friday 1st March 2013
- Final Course Choice form issued to students
- Reference copy for you to keep.
- Copy to be returned to Form Tutor.
Thursday 7th March 2013
- Review Day
- Students will be able to discuss ideas about course choices with their tutor.
Monday 11th March
- Deadline for return of the completed Final Course Choices form to Form Tutors.

Year 10 Science Controlled Assessment
On Monday February 4th Year 10 students in Science sets 2-5 will carry out the first part of their controlled assessment for the "GCSE Science A" course.

New Build: Learning Support Centre
The building of our new Learning and Support Centre, which will provide appropriate and long awaited accommodation for students with special educational needs and students on alternative programmes, is due to commence on Monday 28th January (some preparation will take place from Wednesday 23rd January)
- The building will be a wing of the building we call the Pavilion which is predominantly the sixth form base.
- The provisional date for completion is October half term 2013.
- During this time health and safety arrangements will be put in place in relation to vehicle access, accessing and exiting the Pavilion and the new fire alarm routine.

Planning with students has begun for the Year 10 Work Experience programme scheduled for Monday 1st - Friday 5th July 2013.

KS4 Careers and Work Experience Evening - of relevance to both Year 10 and Year 11 students / families
Wednesday 31st October 2012 - 4.30 - 6.45 pm
This evening aims to provide students and parents with:
- information about the variety of education and training pathways available to students at age 16 and after
- opportunity to explore the options available at local FE Colleges, apprenticeship providers and in the uniformed services
- information about the purpose of Work Experience week and how it fits in with the KS4 PHSCE Programme (of specific relevance to Year 10 - see also previous News Item titled Year 10 work Experience - summer 2013)
The timings for the evening are:
- 4.30 pm Careers Fair commences
- 4.45 pm Presentation on Work Experience (repeated at 6.15 pm)
- 5.30 pm Presentation on Post-16 Qualifications
- 6.15 pm Presentation on Work Experience (repeat of 5.00 pm presentation) - Careers Fair draws to a close

This documentation can be downloaded by following this link and we request that one copy of the signed Home-School Agreement be returned to school as soon as possible.
2012 Examination Results
- A2 Results for Year 13 will be issued at 10am on Thursday 16th August
- AS Results for Year 12 will be issued at 10.30am on Thursday 16th August
- GCSE Results for Year 11 will be issued at 10am on Thursday 23rd August
Results for all other year groups will be issued in September by form tutors.

Privacy Notice
The school's privacy notice has been adjusted slightly in order to allow us to share relevant student information with agencies acting directly on our behalf to provide services for students and their parents.
This means that we will give only relevant and necessary information to organisations such as Changing Education or Chartwells Catering to allow them to provide their service. At all times the school will remain the "Data Controller" and only relevant information will be shared: members of these organisations will not have access to school databases, but simply to sets of information that we provide them with.

Internal Examinations - Years 7 - 10
Internal examinations for Years 7 -10 are scheduled for week commencing 11th June.

Olympic Week (25-29 June): arrangements published
Please click below to download a copy of the relevant Olympic Week letters detailing the arrangements for the activities and visits that will take place during the 25th - 29th June 2012.
These were distributed by Form tutors to students last week.
The medical VIS 4 form and payment are to be returned to school via form tutors by Friday 1st June.
Year 11 2012 Study Leave Arrangements
The last compulsory day of attendance for all Year 11 students is Monday 28th May 2012
- All Year 11 students should attend normal lessons on Monday 28th May in the morning. At the start of the day there will be four separate House assemblies for Year 11 students.
- Year 11 students taking the English Language examination on Tuesday 29th May in the morning will be expected to attend Monday afternoon lessons as normal since these include a final revision session for the English Language examination
- Year 11 students not taking English Language examination on the Tuesday morning 29th May will begin their study leave on Monday 28th May afternoon: leaving school at 12.45pm
- On Tuesday 29th May only the students who are taking the English Language examination (a.m.) and D & T: Graphic Products examination (p.m.) have to attend. If remaining students would like to attend their lessons they may do so: these will be within the study leave programme and the focus will be on revision.
- From Wednesday 30th May until Friday 1st June teachers will be available during students' normal lesson timetable to provide a study leave programme. Prior to the examination in each subject some students may find this support valuable. All students choosing to attend the site for revision lessons must recognise that there are important Year 11, 12 and 13 examinations taking place and so any 'end of school' celebrations will have to be kept until the Year 11 Prom Evening on Thursday 12th July

Exam Stress?
Wilmslow High School is trialling an online course designed to help students learn to manage the pressure and stress of examinations.
This is part of a research study run by Edge Hill University and examining body AQA. We hope that by helping students learn about stress and how they can manage their thoughts and emotions we can improve their wellbeing and their performance in examinations. The trial involves all our Year 10 students, but students from Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13 can also access the online course on the VLE in the PHSCE area.

BBC School Report 2012
March 15th saw 50 students, mainly from Years 7 and 8 take part in the national BBC School Report Day. Researching information, arranging interviews,
developing and writing up their articles in time to meet a tight deadline meant that the students had to work in an energetic and focused manner
throughout the day. A wide variety of challenging topics were covered and their work is available to read via the website link here.

School Uniform - consultation about proposed changes
Following Mrs Bremner's item in the December 2011 edition of High News about us reviewing the school uniform we are pleased to report that a display of the proposed uniform changes is now in the reception area of school and the Learning Resource Centre. Students are already showing considerable interest and are completing the feedback questionnaire which can be downloaded from this link. We welcome your comments on this questionnaire and would recommend that they are best made after popping into school in order to see the quality and look of the new uniform items first hand.
Year 11 Parents' Evening - Thursday 19th January 2012
The letter with full details of this event will have been distributed by Form Tutors by Friday 13th January and can be downloaded from this link. As usual it is possible to book appointments from 5.00pm to 8.00pm.
The letter will also introduce the National Citizens Service "Summer of a Lifetime" Programme that Year 11 students may apply to join for four weeks in July/August. An article describing last year's programme in Cheshire can be downloaded from this link and further details will be provided to students in an assembly led by one of the local organisers during the week commencing 23rd January.

Car Parking Barrier in operation from Monday 12th December
We are introducing a Car Parking Barrier System in order to enhance the safety of the site of our students, parents, staff and community users.
This will first come into operation on Monday 12th December. Mrs Bremner's letter outlining how the system will work was distributed to students on Tuesday 6th December and can be downloaded from here.

Parent Governor Election
Following the item in the Headteacher's beginning of year letter, there have been three candidates nominated for the one available place on the Governing Body.

Students have been issued with ballot papers today by their form tutors. To vote in the election you should place an "X" against a name on the ballot paper and put it in the enclosed small, blank envelope (only one ballot paper in each envelope please). This, in turn, should be placed in the larger named envelope that should be returned to school not later than 12 noon on Friday, 14th October.
This procedure has been adopted to ensure the secrecy of the ballot, as well as maintaining a record of who has voted.
The count will be held on Friday, 14th October and the result will be available from school later in the afternoon.
