Start of Year Arrangements - September 2010

Full details of the start of year arrangements are contained in the Headteacher's End of Term Notes issued in July 2010 (please click here to download a copy).

Key organisational points are as follows.

In order to ensure an effective start to the new school year, the return of students to school is to be phased as indicated below. Students should report to school on the day and at the times stated below:

Thursday, 2nd September 2010

8.40 a.m.: Year 7 and Lower Sixth

All students in Years 8,9,10,11,13 have an appointment for an individual target setting interview.

Students will have recorded appointment times in their 2009/10 student planners. The intention of these interviews is to focus all students immediately upon the year ahead and, in the light of previous performance, input and aspirations, to set challenging personal targets. Students should arrive at the interviews with a clear sense of what they wish to achieve in the 2010 - 2011 year. The targets will be monitored throughout the year and reviewed in detail at the 'Review Day' in February 2011.

7.00 p.m.

Year 7 Introductory Evening for Parents - the purpose of this evening is to share with parents of students new to the school, the school's expectations and to outline the opportunities available to students. The evening will also provide parents with the opportunity to:

  • clarify any points of uncertainty
  • receive information on opportunities in sport and the arts
  • discuss students' individual needs. 'Learning Support' staff will be available

It is essential that all parents of Year 7 students attend this evening

Friday, 3rd September 2010

Deaf Awareness Week - Presentation

As part of our ID programme the focus for Deaf Awareness Week is social inclusion. The message we want everyone to think can be summarised as 'Give language the best possible chance: it's important for me to see what you are saying, so remember LOOK AT ME.'

The presentation available by following this link provides a context for the deaf awareness activities during the ID celebrations; these accessible strategies make all the difference between understanding and confusion. Students are celebrating their individuality and removing barriers to learning.

Stranger Danger - Cheshire Police Press Release

Cheshire police are asking parents and youngsters to be vigilant after an incident today in Macclesfield.

At about 3.30 pm today, 6th May 2010, a 15 year old girl was walking along Priory Lane in Macclesfield, when she saw a man who had been walking a few yards in front of her, jump into the front garden of a house on the street. As the girl was then passing the garden, the same man jumped out in front of her, and grabbed both of her forearms saying "You're coming with me". The girl pushed him away, and ran back to her school, in a state of distress. The man did not follow her.

The offender is described as a white man, in his mid 30s, 5'8" tall, of fat build with a large stomach. He had short dark cropped hair, and had stubble on his chin. He was wearing a dark blue polo shirt with yellow horizontal striped across it, a black nylon jacket, which was possibly an Adidas tracksuit top. This had reflective stripes on the shoulders. He was also wearing black jeans, black scruffy work boots, and he had very yellow teeth. He spoke with a local accent, and had a very deep voice.

If anyone can provide information to identify this man, then please contact Macclesfield Police on 0845 458 0000.
