Careers – Year 10 focus

Wilmslow High School believes that a week of work experience is a very valuable part of each student’s Key Stage 4 curriculum. We have, therefore, included it within the school calendar for Year 10 during the week beginning Monday, 9th July 2017.

Following the assemblies, a letter to parents/carers regarding the work placement week 2017 has been distributed. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here:

In the past, we have found that the most effective placements are those which are arranged by students themselves through parents, friends or relatives. Although it seems extremely early to be making arrangements for your child, we hope you will begin the process early this academic year.

Mrs Stephens has given self-placement forms to form tutors for students who know they would like to find a placement themselves. Alternatively, a copy of the self placement form can be downloaded here:

Further information about work experience was provided at an evening for Year 10 students and their parents on Tuesday, 15th November 2016. Also during this evening, there was a post-16 opportunities event helping students to consider the options available after Year 11. You can download the slides from the work experience presentation here:

In order to ensure that we are able to offer a week’s work placement to all students, a contribution from parents of £10 per student is required. This has become necessary because the administrative costs of sourcing and checking health and saftey for the placements are considerable.

Every year some students are able to find unusual and stimulating placements beyond the local area. We are keen to support these but would urge that early contact is made with Mrs Stephens in order that any issues concerning the Health and Safety checks can be addressed.
