Physical Education

PE and sport at Wilmslow High school are viewed as an integral part of every student’s education:

Core lessons (Year 7-11)

All students receive 2 hours and 30 minutes of high quality physical education in their core lessons. Across Years 7 and Year 8, students follow prescribed programmes of study, allowing them to experience a wide breadth of challenging activities.  In Years 9 to 11, there is an element of choice as students take increased ownership of their learning and follow a personalised learning pathway – either Maximum Performers, Outwitting Opponents, Healthy Lifestyles or Creative Performers.

Examination courses

PE is a very popular choice in KS4 and KS5. We currently offer the AQA GCSE course in Years 10 and 11 along with the BTEC First Diploma. In the sixth form, students can opt for the OCR A Level course or the BTEC National Diploma.

Sixth form enrichment

On a Wednesday afternoon the school offers a variety of sporting options, from social sport to quality, competitive sport. This option covers periods 5&6, is on the school premises, and also involves matches against other sixth forms in several sports.

Extra-curricular (‘Sports X-tra’)

Students are offered a broad and balanced programme of physical activities to cater for all abilities. Students who represent the school compete at a very high level in county and national competitions. There are also a large number of before and after school clubs that offer students the opportunity to engage in activities ranging from cheerleading to trampolining.
