Wider Curriculum Lessons Week: November 2019

An overview of the Wider Curriculum lessons activities for each year group is below. We would be grateful if you could spend some time with your child discussing this programme before and during the week.

Owing to the upcoming general election, every year group will have two lessons from the Community strand. These will cover these questions:

  1. How does a general election work?
  2. What are the main issues in 2019 and what do the main parties say about these issues?


For each year, the key question for the other three lessons is below.

Year 7  – Wellbeing:

  1. What is wellbeing?
  2. How do we develop the skill of resilience
  3. What is a healthy diet?

Year 8 – Respect:

  1. What are healthy relationships and what types of sexual relationships are there?
  2. Understanding different sexualities and gender identity.
  3. What is consent?

Year 9Community:

  1. How does parliament work?
  2. How and when did all men and women get the vote?
  3. What is the monarchy and what role does it play in our democracy?

Year 10Respect:

  1. What forms of prejudice exist in British society in 2019?
  2. What is hate crime?
  3. What is homophobia and how to we combat it?

Year 11Aspirations:

  1. What did I learn from my mock interview?
  2. What are my plans for next year and beyond?
  3. How do I best prepare for my mock examinations?

Year 12


  1. What is Unifrog?
  2. How will I use Unifrog to prepare for university applications?


  1. What do I need to know about drug misuse?

Year 13


  1. How will I fund university education/moving away from home?
  2. Who are Samaritans?


  1. Am I ready for the next steps in my education?
