Narrow Defeat for U18 Girls Against Sandbach

Wilmslow 1–2 Sandbach

Our U18 girls’ football team suffered a narrow defeat against Sandbach, who are partnered with Crewe Alexandra, in a closely contested match played in tough conditions.

Wilmslow created the better chances in the first half, with Hannah Jones coming closest when she struck the crossbar. Neither side could break the deadlock before the interval.

Sandbach took the lead early in the second half from a well-delivered corner. Wilmslow responded strongly, creating several opportunities before Ava Gardner scored a deserved equaliser.

The girls continued to dominate but conceded from another corner with five minutes remaining. Despite pushing forward in search of a second equaliser, they were unable to find a way through.

It was a strong team performance against opponents who train several times a week within a professional club setup, with Wilmslow arguably deserving more from the contest.

Players of the Match:

  • Molly Cant — a solid performance at the back.
  • Catrin Thomas — tireless work and excellent moments on the right wing.
  • Hannah Jones — an influential performance that kept Wilmslow moving in midfield.
