Admissions to Wilmslow High School

We’re delighted that you’re considering Wilmslow High School for your child’s education. Whether you’re applying for Year 7, transferring mid-year, or joining our Sixth Form, we’re here to help guide you through the process.

Year 7 Admissions

Wilmslow High School is a Community School, and our admissions are managed by Cheshire East Council. To view full details of the local authority’s admissions policy, please click here.

Each year, we admit up to 300 students into Year 7.

How Applications Are Prioritised

When the school is oversubscribed, applications are prioritised using the following criteria:

  1. Children in care or previously in care

  2. Siblings of current students

  3. Children living within the school’s designated catchment area

  4. Children attending a partner (feeder) primary school

  5. Children living nearest to the school (straight-line distance)

If places are limited within one criterion, priority is given to those who also meet the next highest criterion and live closest to the school.

A random tie-breaker may be used if distances are identical (for example, applicants from the same apartment block).

Secondary Transfer Timeline

  • Late October – Parents are invited to express their preferences

  • Early March – Offers are made and appeals information is provided

In-Year Admissions (Years 7–11)

To apply for a place outside of the normal Year 7 intake:

If a space is available, Cheshire East will offer a place and you will be invited to contact the school to arrange an appointment. If the year group is full, the Council will notify you and offer the right to appeal.
