Post 18 Pathways

Planning for Life After Sixth Form

A Time of Transition and Opportunity

Sixth form marks a significant step into adulthood. With a wide range of options available, students are encouraged to plan ahead, reflect on their ambitions, and make informed decisions that align with their strengths and goals.

Guidance and Support

Students have access to tailored advice through:

  • Form Tutors and the Post-16 Guidance Manager

  • One-to-one careers meetings with a qualified independent advisor (by request and based on need)

We empower students to take ownership of their future by researching opportunities, asking questions, and seeking advice when needed.

Exploring Options

To help students experience different pathways, we offer:

  • Attendance at the annual UCAS convention

  • Taster days and employer-led events

  • Access to information on apprenticeships, employment, and higher education

We also encourage students to be proactive in exploring opportunities beyond school.

University Applications (UCAS)

With around 80% of students applying to university, we provide structured and experienced support throughout the UCAS process, starting in Year 12 Spring Term. This includes:

  • Personal statement guidance

  • Application reviews

  • Support securing offers for high-demand courses

Apprenticeships & Employment

We work with the Cheshire and Warrington Pledge Partnership and local employers to support students pursuing vocational or employment routes, offering:

  • CV writing and interview workshops

  • Access to local employer contacts and apprenticeship vacancies

Additional Support & Events

  • Ongoing guidance via morning registration, assemblies, and Wider Curriculum lessons

  • Talks from external speakers to broaden students’ understanding of available routes

  • Parent & Student Information Evenings led by Mrs Cook:

    • Next Steps at 18 (March) – Includes student finance

    • UCAS Information Evening (June)
